Reconciliation & Communion

Elementary Faith Formation

Our elementary religious education is to teach our parish children who attend Kindergarten through grade five about our living faith. Sacramental Preparation classes are available for  who have not received their sacraments of Eucharist or Reconciliation.

Classes are held Thursday evenings from 5:30-6:30 PM in the parish hall, starting October 6th, and end in May.

There is Sacramental preparation for First Reconciliation and Eucharist for those children over seven years old. If your child has not been baptized, and is seven years of age or older, there are RCIC ( Rite of Christian Initiation of Children) classes.  Children will be prepared to receive their Baptism, First Reconciliation and First Eucharist. Children attending RCIC will receive the sacraments during the Easter Vigil Mass.

All children must be registered with the office before attending.  Please make sure to escort your child/ children in and out of the building. A schedule of the days will be sent home with your child.

For More Information of Schedules and Registration Requirements, please contact the office.

Middle and High School

For middle and high school-age youth who have not yet received Baptism or First Holy Communion, there are opportunities available to be prepared for these sacraments.  There will be a weekly class on Mondays from 5:30-6:00pm (before Middle School Youth Group) for those of middle school age.  Those in high school may choose to attend the Monday class, the High School Confirmation class, or may attend the RCIA program on Thursday evenings, from 7:00-8:30pm.

Reconciliation

Sin is when we turn our back to God; it is us, building a wall between God and us.

Sin hurts our relationship with God, ourselves and others. As the Catechism states:

The sinner wounds God’s honor and love, his own human dignity…and the spiritual well-being of the Church, of which each Christian ought to be a living stone. To the eyes of faith no evil is graver than sin and nothing has worse consequences for the sinners themselves, for the Church, and for the whole world. (CCC 1487, 1488)

Reconciliation takes us closer to God.

Examination of Conscience

Recall your sins.

Prayerfully consider what you have done with full knowledge and full consent against God's and the Church's commandments:

  • Do I pray to God every day? Have I thanked Go for his gifts to me? Did I put my faith in danger through uncritical reading contrary to Catholic teachings or indifferent involvement in non-Catholic sects? Did I engage in superstitious practices such as palm-reading or fortune-telling? Did I hate or quarrel with anyone, or desire revenge? Did I refuse to forgive? Was I disrespectful? Have I been responsive to the needs of the poor and respected the dignity of others?
  • Did I take the name of God in vain? Did I curse or take a false oath?
  • Did I miss Mass on Sundays or holy days of obligation through my own fault? Am I attentive at Mass? Did I keep fast and abstinence on the prescribed days?
  • Did I disobey my parents and lawful superiors in important matters?
  • Did I get drunk? Did I take illicit drugs? Did I drive irresponsibly? Did I consent to, recommend, advise, or actively take part in an abortion? Did I use artificial means to prevent conception?
  • Did I willfully look at pornography, entertain impure thoughts, or engage in impure conversations or actions?
  • Was I unfaithful to my spouse? Did I engage in sexual activity outside of marriage?
  • Did I steal or damage another's property? Have I been honest and just in my business relations?
  • Did I tell lies? Did I sin by calumny, or detraction, of others? Did I judge others rashly in serious matters?
  • Did I covet my neighbor's spouse?
  • Have I envied other people

Act of Contrition

My God, I am sorry for my sins withal! my heart in choosing to do wrong and failing to do good, I have sinned against you whom I should love above all things.

I firmly intend, with your help, to do penance, to sin no more, and to avoid whatever leads me to sin.

Our Savior Jesus Christ suffered and died for us. In His name, my God, have mercy. Amen.

He sido irrespetuoso?
  • Juré el nombre de Dios en vano? Maldije?
  • Me embriago? Consumo drogas ilícitas? Conduzco irresponsablemente?
  • Intencionalmente, he mirado pornografía, entretenido pensamientos impuros, o participado en acciones o conversaciones impuras? He sido infiel a mi esposo o esposa? He tenido actividad sexual fuera del matrimonio?
  • He mentido? Di falso testimonio? He calumniado o difamado a otros? He juzgado a otros duramente en asuntos serios?
  • He codiciado el esposo(a) del prójimo?
  • He envidiado a otra gente?

Amen
