Rev. Tom McMichael
I am a Catholic priest and I am married. After growing up in a Lutheran family, marrying a Lutheran woman, and completing Lutheran seminary I was ordained a Lutheran pastor in 1988. After 17 years of ministry as a Lutheran pastor and a great deal of spiritual discernment, my wife Karin and I were received into full communion with the Church and Bishop of Rome. Archbishop Brunett petitioned Pope Benedict XVI for a dispensation from the norm of celibacy and after additional formation at Mount Angel Seminary in Oregon, ordained me to the priesthood at St. James Cathedral in Seattle on Jan. 10, 2009. Karin and I have two sons who are both married and four grandchildren. I am one of a couple of hundred Latin rite married priests in the United States—mostly former Lutheran and Episcopal clergy.
